JPG.ARQ is an architecture and urban planning office based in São Paulo, founded by José Paulo Gouvêa in 2007. Flexible and versatile, the  company is capable of developing and managing projects of a wide range of scales and purposes, always in dialogue with clients and collaborators.

Graduated as an architect (2004), master (2010) with the research “City of Maps: The Production of Space of São Paulo through its Cartographic Representations” and PhD (2016) with the thesis “The Presence and Absence of the Rivers of São Paulo: Primitive Accumulation and Water Valorization”, by the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of USP – FAUUSP.

He is an Associate Professor of the Escola da Cidade, Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism in São Paulo.

Since 2005 he has directed the JPG.ARQ studio, based in São Paulo, where he is dedicated to the production of projects of various scales. He is the author of the winning project of the National Competition for the Brazilian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, a building that received the international award “Building of the Year 2023” awarded by the ArchDaily website. He won the National Competition for the project of the new unit of SESC in Limeira, São Paulo, 2017, project in construction with inauguration scheduled for 2025. He also carried out the project of public equipment CEU Luiz Melodia, Unified Educational Center, unit of São Miguel Paulista, inaugurated in 2020.

Since 2011 he has dedicated himself to studying the work of architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha. He is the author, together with Catherine Otondo, of the book “Architecture Itineraries IT06: Paulo Mendes da Rocha” Contemporary Architecture Foundation, Cordoba, Spain, 2012, and director of the documentary “PMR 29: 29 minutes with Paulo Mendes da Rocha”, São Paulo, 2011. In 2018, he was curator of the exhibition “Arquitetura de Exceção: O Pavilhão do Brasil na Expo ’70 Osaka – Paulo Mendes da Rocha”, held at the Galeria de Arquitetura da Escola da Cidade in São Paulo and also in Tokyo, no. Japan, under the title “Concrete Horizon”, at the Brazilian Embassy, ​​in 2019. He is the author of the full text of the Japanese magazine GA Residencial Masterpieces 27, dedicated to the King and Millan houses, by Paulo Mendes da Rocha. In 2021 he was the editor, together with the Italian historian Daniele Pisani, of the 615th edition of the Japanese magazine A+U, dedicated to the work of Mendes da Rocha.

He taught classes and lectures on his research and projects in institutions such as the universities of Harvard and Columbia, in the USA, at the University of Kyoto, in Japan, at the University of Buenos Aires – UBA and at the Universidad Nacional San Martin – UNSAM, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the Universidad Nacional del Litoral – UNL, in Santa Fé, Argentina, at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito – USFQ, in Ecuador, in Brazil, in Unicamp, in PUC Minas, in Senac-SP among others.
